Powder Metallurgy Preparation and Characterization of Titanium-Titanium Diboride Composite Targeted for Dental Implant

نویسندگان

چکیده

Due to the advantages over other metallic materials, such as superior corrosion resistance, excellent biocompatibility, and favorable mechanical properties, titanium, its alloys related composites, are frequently utilized in biomedical applications, particularly orthopedics dentistry. This work focuses on developing novel titanium-titanium diboride (TiB2; ceramic material) composites for dental implants where TiB2 additions were estimated be 9 wt.%. In a steel mold, Ti-TiB2 fabricated using powder metallurgy technique sintered five hours at 1200 °C. Microstructural chemical properties analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), diffraction (XRD) evaluate impact of addition. Compressive strength, Brinell hardness, porosity, density, among physical also measured characterized. It has been found that adding Ti increases porosity (35.53%), compressive strength (203.04 MPa), surface hardness (296.3 kg/mm2) but decreases density (3.79 gm/cm3). The lightweight strong composite could suitable implant applications.

Titanium dental implant surfaces

Osseointegration has been defined as “a direct structural and functional connection between ordered, living bone and the surface of a load-carrying implant”. However, titanium and its alloys cannot directly bond to living bone after being implanted into the body. The osseointegration of titanium dental implants is critically dependent on the implant surface properties. Various surface modificat...

Dental implant materials: commercially pure titanium and titanium alloys.

Manufacturers use six different titanium-based biomaterials to fabricate dental implants. Each of these materials, including four grades of commercially pure titanium and two titanium alloys, has distinct mechanical and physical properties. Clinicians should recognize these differences for optimal treatment planning and patient care.

Porous Titanium for Dental Implant Applications

Recently, an increasing amount of research has focused on the biological and mechanical behavior of highly porous structures of metallic biomaterials, as implant materials for dental implants. Particularly, pure titanium and its alloys are typically used due to their outstanding mechanical and biological properties. However, these materials have high stiffness (Young’s modulus) in comparison to...

Material Properties of Titanium Diboride

The physical, mechanical, and thermal properties of polycrystalline TiB2 are examined with an emphasis on the significant dependence of the properties on the density and grain size of the material specimens. Using trend analysis, property relations, and interpolation methods, a coherent set of trend values for the properties of polycrystalline TiB2 is determined for a mass fraction of TiB2 ⩾ 98...
